Improved Fitness
Aquatic Therapy is not only a good way to become active but help relieve chronic pain.
Land therapy may be more physically demanding and overall increase the resistance of a sedentary adult because they feel they are not able to complete the exercises.
Doing a more water based (aquatic therapy) program aides in movement that may otherwise be difficult to perform. This form of therapy is not only great for those with higher levels of physical fitness but even those that are sedentary, "Moreover, continuous limb movements against the water resistance result in muscle strength and cardiovascular benefits, especially in individuals with low levels of physical fitness" (Baena-Beato et al., 2014). These exercises do not have to be very strenuous as that water from the hydro-pool adds some resistance that will make an improvement overtime.
Program Type
Each program is different as each person has different needs and pain that needs to be addressed. Also aquatic therapy is not for everyone usually a primary physician writes a referral. A program could be, "10 minutes of warm-up, 15-20 minutes of resistance exercise, 20-25 minutes of aerobic exercise and 10 minutes of cool-down (stretching exercises)" (Baena-Beato et al., 2014).
